The author, Walter
D. Kennedy, is well known for his books about southern heritage and history.
In his new book, he takes on the tough issue of slavery.
Slavery is the primary weapon used by
the politically correct to keep Southerners ignorant
of their history. It is a common fact that
Southerners avoid this area because they have been indoctrinated
to believe they can not defend
themselves on this issue. The author believes otherwise.
Throughout this book, Kennedy does not force readers
to accept his views. The book lets readers
come to their own conclusions. However, Kennedy does
not avoid the tough issues and he directly
blames the people responsible for the institution of
slavery.
Each myth of American slavery is methodically taken
apart so the reader can see the truth
instead of the myth that “enslaves” their current knowledge.
Kennedy backs up his work with excellent
documentation and resources and the reader is left with
no doubt about the true facts behind the myths.
This book is recommended for people who have had
a long standing interest in this time period
and those who are just beginning to read about this time
in our country's history. After reading this
book no one, whether they are well read or a new
student of southern history, can deny the facts that
this author has stated.
Myths of American Slavery is ground breaking and
will make open-minded people wonder what
other myths need to be dispelled.
